| WHY
PARENTS need to get involved, WHY because we need to protect our
children from sexual predators, sexual abuse and to improve our laws. Sexual
abuse once considered a misdemeanor in 1949;today 2005 isn't much better. Sexual
abuse is rarely discussed among adults or children, until recently the problem
was left alone. The problem is that it now exists in our neighborhoods and in
our every day way of life. Sexual abuse has come to the forefront; it effects
us all in one way or another. We need to be aware of what is happening to
our communities, we have sexual predators living next door. We must be vigilant
in our efforts to protect our children from sexual predators. We need to talk
about this unthinkable crime so we can protect our children. Sexual abuse
is a subject nobody wants to discuss yet if we don't we may become the victims
or worst our children may become the victims. Abductions can happen at any
time, in any neighborhood. Children need to learn simple safety rules regarding
strangers or the un wanted touch even if it's a family member. The child safety
should always come first. Children learn simple safety rules regarding fire or
water; today we need to teach them about sexual abuse as well. Discuss hypothetical
situations that they can understand about sexual predators. Sexual predators are
not always the strangers. Your children need to know what is proper touching and
what is not. You need to teach them what to do in these types of situations. Talking
about sexual abuse is better than having to deal with it. Once you have been
abused you live with it the rest of your life, as well as the entire family. Don't
fear talking about sexual predators or sexual abuse, fear more what may happen
if you don't discuss it. There are books you can read to our children about sexual
predators or strangers to help you discuss this subject with them. We recommend
a few you can get at most bookstores. Telling Isn't Tattling by: Kathryn M.
Hammerseng Who is a Stranger and What Should I Do? By: Linda Walvoord Girard
It's My Body by: Lory Freeman There are many others for you to view in
order to protect your child from sexual predators but it's up to you. Protect
your child from today's world and those whom may want to bring harm to them. Books
like this can inform both you and your child about the subject with out fear.
Please understand protecting your children is your job and it's the most important
job you have. | | | |
